Adrian A. Black

Adrian A. Black, 85, Jonesboro, Indiana died Friday, March 30, 2018 at VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.

Adrian was born on March 15, 1933 in Marion, Indiana, one of 12 children of the late James and Rebecca (Stanley) Black.  He graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1953 and served in the US Army from 1953- 1955 where he was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne proudly completing 72 jumps.  He was married Rebecca M. Dunning on December 24, 1982.   Adrian was an inspector at General Motors, retiring  in 1988 after 31 years.  He was a member of the UAW Local 977 of Marion, the American Legion Post 313, and the Jesus Fellowship Family Church of Marion.  He enjoyed woodworking. As an avid sports fan of any sport that used a ball, he was an IHSAA official for many years as well playing Fast Pitch softball for the UAW and ran the General Motors Intramural sports league for many years.

Adrian is survived by his wife Becky,  children; Edgar (Johnny) Black, Swayzee, and Stephanie (Paul) Pirlot, Gibraltar, MI,  stepchildren; Tammy (Tom) Inglis, Summitville, Melissa (Tracy) Phillips, Ossian, and Michael (Kristie) Stanley, Fairmount, 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his 11 siblings; Elmer Black, Bertha Collins, Sarah Warren, Marie Welton, Verlin Black, James Black, Lincoln Black, Clarence Black, Paul Black, Nannie Lou Black and Lucille Gaunt.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana where visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from 5-7 PM with an American Legion Walk beginning at 6 PM.  Funeral service is Wednesday, April 4 at 9:30 AM with Pastor Jeremy Taylor officiating.  Burial will be at Marion National Cemetery with military rites.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services of Grant County in care of the funeral home.
