Donald H. Blackman

Donald H. Blackman was called to heaven at 11:21 am on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at his home in Peru.

Don was born to Homer Blackman and Mary Pogue on June 29, 1929 in Peru, Indiana.  On December 27, 1950, he married Charlene (Sheets) in Peru, Indiana.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on February 17, 1953.  He was a member of the First Christian Church, was affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose, the Maennerchor, American Legion and the Foresters.  He had spent several years as machinist on the Wabash and C&O Railroad and then worked as a machine repairman at Chrysler for 10 years retiring in 1994.  He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed carpentry work on homes and loved fly fishing.

He is survived by two sons, Jon L. (Victoria) Blackman of Kokomo, Indiana and Jeffrey L. (Teresa) Blackman of Orange Beach, Alabama. Also surviving is a sister, Beverly (James) Lennon of Orange Beach, Alabama. He had 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife and one son, Michael C. Blackman of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Friends may call from 11am – 3pm on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana.  Funeral service will follow at 3pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Loft officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru, Indiana.
