Elaine Jean (Rosenbaum) Woontner

Elaine Jean (Rosenbaum) Woontner, 88, formerly of Marion and a resident of Denver, Colorado, since August of 2012, died at 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2017. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, on June 24, 1929, to the late Joseph and Sadie (Weiss) Rosenbaum. Elaine married Leo Woontner in 1955, her husband of 53 years, and he preceded her in death in July of 2008.

Elaine received her master’s degree in Chemistry and was previously employed as a chemist. In her more recent years, Elaine was a homemaker, a master gardener who volunteered in the Marion public schools and at Asherwood Nature Preserve, and helped illiterate adults learn to read. She was a member of the Sinai Temple congregation and was a great cook, gardener, and avid wordsmith.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Regina) Woontner, Denver, Colorado; daughter, Susan (Jose Picart) Woontner, Cary, North Carolina; and four grandchildren, Barbara Woontner, Rebecca Woontner, Aaron Picart, and Emily Picart.

In addition to her parents and husband, Elaine was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Shore.

A private family graveside service to celebrate Elaine’s life will be held on Monday, October 30, 2017, at Estates of Serenity in Marion. Burial will follow in Estates of Serenity.
