Margaret E. King

Margaret E. King, 95, Fairmount, went to be with the Lord at 3:53 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Marion General Hospital. She was born in Jonesboro on September 28, 1922, to the late Harold and Maude (Horner) Small. She married Harold M. Nelson, who preceded her in death. She then married Robert King in 1960, and he also preceded her in death.

Margaret was a lifetime resident of the Grant County area and lived most of her life in Jonesboro. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Taylor University (Upland) and her Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Ball State University (Muncie). Following her college graduation, she taught both 3rd and 4th grades for 22 years with Mississinewa Community Schools. She loved children and was passionate about guiding and preparing them for life. Margaret also loved the Lord dearly and was a member of Jonesboro Friends Church.

In her leisure time, Margaret loved reading historical novels. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, square dancing, traveling, and playing cards, especially Euchre.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Elaine (Thomas) Thompson, Three Rivers, Michigan; sons, David Alan (Cindy) Nelson, Drasco, Arkansas, Ricky Joe (Bernice) Nelson, Fairmount, and Gene King, Jonesboro; 7 grandchildren, Amy, Linda, Doug, Leslie, Ande, Cathy, and Velen; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Margaret was preceded in death by her son, Harold Stephen Nelson, and brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth (Betty) Small.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Margaret’s funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Pastor Robert Garra will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.
