Phil A. Spann

Phil A. Spann, 90, North Manchester, Indiana passed away at 10:40 a.m. on January 31, 2018 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The last surviving of eight children, Phil was born on April 9, 1927 in South Whitley, Indiana to Jesse and Odessa (Spitler) Spann.

A proud veteran, Phil served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After returning from duty, he married Joanne E. Werking on May 16, 1947. The two were married for 51 years before Joanne passed away on December 26, 1998. On November 27, 1999 Phil married Carol Yoder. For the past 18 years they were happily married.

After graduating from Chester High School in 1945 and serving time in the U.S. Navy, Phil worked for Wendel’s for 50+ years before retiring in 2003. During his life, faith played a large role in Phil’s life. He was a member of Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren, Liberty Mills, Indiana. During his time of relaxation, Phil enjoyed woodworking, fishing, birds, and motorcycles.

The loving memory of Phil A. Spann will be forever remembered by his wife, Carol Spann, North Manchester, Indiana; two sons, Mark A. Spann, Muncie, Indiana and Tod Yoder, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; five daughters, Susan Curtis, Wabash, Indiana, Mary Jo (Randy) Weimann, Lynne (Ron) Behny, all of North Manchester, Indiana, Gina (John) Jonassen, Walkerville, Michigan and Marcia (Brian) Panzer, Fort Wayne, Indiana; seventeen grandchildren, sixty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Odessa Spann; one son David L Spann; five brothers and two sisters.

Family and friends may call Friday, February 2, 2018 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren, 103 North 3rd Street, Liberty Mills, Indiana with calling beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Kelly Beutler, Pastor Erin Huiras and Chaplain Debbie Barrett will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
