Court documents revealed more details into the officer-involved shooting that occurred at a Peru mobile home park on Jan. 7.
Marco Anguiano survived being shot by police but is currently being held in Miami County Jail on multiple felony charges. His most serious charges include armed robbery as a Level 3 felony and unlawful possession of a firearm as a Level 4 felony.
Previous stories detail how witnesses told FOX59/CBS4 that a pregnant woman spotted a “strange man” in her garage which kicked off a police standoff after the man retreated into a mobile home. The woman wasn’t harmed but police did learn that another individual was allegedly held at knife point and robbed by Anguiano.
Officers encountered Anguiano in the mobile home park but he ignored police orders and beelined for a mobile home. Officers said that while Anguiano was retreating, he pulled a firearm with his waistband and pointed it at police.
An Indiana State Police review of bodycam footage stated that officers could be heard yelling “gun, gun, gun!” Then a police officer fired five shots at Anguiano, wounding the suspect.
The officer stated he opened fire due to fearing for his safety and well-being.
Anguiano dropped his firearm on the porch after being shot. He also reportedly consumed what police believe to have been meth.
Anguiano was eventually taken into custody while police searched the area for potential additional suspects. Anguiano was taken to the hospital but wasn’t seriously injured from the shooting.
Court documents reveal Anguiano has a criminal history. He has been convicted in the past of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and robbery with a deadly weapon.
If convicted of a Level 3 felony, he could face up to 16 years in prison.
Update: PERU, IN – The Indiana State Police (ISP) Lafayette District Criminal Investigation Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on State Road 19 in Peru, Indiana.
On January 7, 2025, shortly after 8:30 a.m., officers responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a subject allegedly banging on windows at a residence on State Road 19, north of U.S. 24. Miami County Dispatch received additional information indicating that the subject allegedly feared for their life.
When officers arrived at the scene, they made contact with the individual who had been reported as banging on the windows. After speaking with this individual, officers gathered information that led them to a nearby trailer in the 1600 block of State Road 19.
As officers approached the trailer, they encountered a subject outside of it. Officers attempted to give verbal commands, but the subject brandished a firearm toward law enforcement. At that time, one officer discharged their firearm, striking the individual.
Officers immediately rendered medical aid, and the subject was transported to a hospital in the Fort Wayne area. The subject remains hospitalized and is currently receiving treatment for their injuries.
Two additional individuals remained barricaded inside the trailer. Officers quickly established a perimeter, and the Indiana State Police SWAT team, along with hostage negotiators, responded to the scene. Negotiators successfully made contact with the two individuals, who exited the residence without incident. One of those individuals was later identified to be Tisha Medina.
Medina was found to have an active warrant for her arrest out of Cass County for the following offenses:
1. Possession of Methamphetamine – Level 5 Felony
2. Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor
3. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Class C Misdemeanor
During the investigation, a firearm was located at the front of the trailer in the area where the suspect was detained.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Indiana State Police Lafayette District Criminal Investigation Division. The information being released at this time is based on a preliminary investigation and is subject to change as more details become available. Upon completion, the findings will be submitted to the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
In accordance with Indiana State Police policy, the trooper who discharged their firearm has been placed on administrative leave. No other injuries were reported during the incident.
The Indiana State Police Lafayette District Criminal Investigation Division was assisted at the scene by troopers and detectives from the Peru District, ISP SWAT and negotiators, ISP Aviation, Crime Scene Investigators, State Excise Police, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, the Peru Police Department, the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office, Miami County Animal Control, and EMS.

The incident happened this morning, Jan. 7, at a mobile home community on State Road 19 near U.S. 24 on the north side of Peru.
Police told 13News one person was taken to a local hospital and no officers were injured.
