Bruce James Bowman

Bruce James Bowman was born in Marion, Indiana, on January 12, 1961. He graduated from Marion High School in 1979; earned a degree in Electrical Engineering Design from Purdue University in 1983, and achieved his Juris Doctorate from Ohio Northern University in 1987.

Bruce became a member of the Indiana Bar in 1988 and passed the national bar examination for patent and trademark attorneys in 1989. In 1993, he was admitted to the Missouri Bar. He worked as a patent attorney in Fort Wayne, Indiana; St. Louis, Missouri; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Carmel, Indiana. He most recently worked with Indiano Law Group in Fishers.

While Bruce loved being an attorney, one of his favorite jobs was working summers during college at Bart’s Water Sports in North Webster, Indiana. It gave him great pride to later assist Bart Culver as his intellectual property attorney.

Bruce met his wife, Mindy Vice Bowman, in high school show choir. They shared 41 years of marriage. Together, they raised two children of whom they were immensely proud: daughter, Samantha (Grant) Eagle and son, Blake Bowman.

Bruce was a member of the Westfield Lions Club, where he especially enjoyed volunteering at the club’s poker nights. He was proud of the club’s new clubhouse and played an integral role in establishing the Westfield Lions Club Foundation, as well as securing additional trademarks for the organization.

His greatest love, besides his family, was Webster Lake. The Bowman family has enjoyed five generations on the lake as avid fishermen, sailors, and water sports enthusiasts. It was a place that held a special place in Bruce’s heart.

Bruce enjoyed all things astronomy-related and was a passionate numismatist (yes, we hope you look that word up-he would chuckle at the thought!). He always carried two-dollar bills in his wallet. He enjoyed a good debate, board games, puzzles, and NASA-related LEGO sets. Music was another great love, especially ’70s rock and classical pieces. Few things made him happier than listening to Pink Floyd loud enough to rattle the windows.

Along with his family and friends, Webster Lake squirrels and hummingbirds will miss him dearly.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Belva Bowman; his sister, and brother-in-law, Diane and David Poole, of Marion; his uncle, Bruce Behlow; his aunt, Lois Slater; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Mindy; his daughter, Samantha (Grant) Eagle; and his son, Blake Bowman.
