Barbara E. Mitchell

Barbara E. Mitchell, 89, Fairmount, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 3:08 pm on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent-Indianapolis. She was born in Tipton, Indiana, on Wednesday, September 5, 1934, to Orval and Olive (Browning) Passwater.  On March 29, 1953, she married Donald Mitchell, and he preceded her in death.  

Barbara graduated from Eastern High School and was a production worker for 40 years with Delco Electronics until her retirement. She was a member of Swayzee United Methodist Church, a member of Point Isabel UMC until its closing in April 2023, former Church Treasurer, and Youth Coordinator of Kids Club.  Her five great-granddaughters loved her and referred to her as GiGi.  Barbara enjoyed yard work, loved her church activities, and looked forward to her weekly socializing with friends at Chuckwagon.

Survivors include her daughters, Karen Hazelton of Windfall and Connie (Jeff) Woods of Greentown; grandsons, Jason (Kelly) Woods of Seymour and Derek (Carly) Woods of Indianapolis; granddaughter, Hillarie (Britton) Finley of Westfield; five great-granddaughters; and sister, Anna Mae (late Phil) Hueston of Greentown.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Dave Hazelton.

The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Monday, July 22, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Barbara's life will begin at 12:00 noon with Pastor John McCarthy officiating.  Burial will take place at Nevada Cemetery in Tipton, IN.
