Brenda Darlene (Wilcox) Cummings, aka “Cricket”, 70, of rural Roann, Indiana passed away on December 20, 2024, peacefully surrounded by family. She was born September 27, 1954, in Wabash, Indiana to Howard and Rhea (Olmstead) Wilcox.
Brenda graduated from Wabash High School in 1972 and shortly after married the love of her life, David Cummings in September of 1973. They moved to a home along the banks of the Eel River and worked hard to provide a great life to their two children. She was a wonderful and loving mother and a kind and generous soul, always putting others’ needs before her own.
Brenda worked for the US Postal Service for many years, until retiring in 2018 to care for her husband. Brenda enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, including spending time with her grandchildren, feeding the birds that frequented her yard, swimming laps at Honeywell pool, walking her dog Milo, and making her famous chocolate chip cookies. Brenda recently celebrated her 70th birthday in New York City with her children.
Brenda is survived by her two children, Lisa (John) Krueckeberg of La Porte, IN and Joseph Cummings of Seattle, WA, her mother, Rhea Wilcox of Wabash, IN; two sisters Tamara (Michael) Chapman of Bloomingdale, IN and Marta (Gary) Gidley of Wabash; a sister-in-law, Nancy Cummings Christman of Liberty Hill, TX; two grandchildren Lily Jade and Henry David Krueckeberg; along with many nieces and nephews. Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, David Cummings and her father, Howard Wilcox.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, December 23, 2024, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 2-6 pm Sunday, at the funeral home.
