CHARLES AUBREY LINN, 93, of Fort Wayne, passed away into the presence of the Lord on Monday, March 10, 2025. Born in Converse, Indiana, August 19, 1931, he was the first of three children and the son of the late Peter Aubrey Linn and Mary Elizabeth (Hand) Linn. His childhood years were spent in Illinois. The family moved to Gas City where Charles graduated from Mississinewa High School. He played on the varsity basketball team and loved the game all his life.
On September 14, 1951, Charles and Marilyn Louise Wickersham were wed at the United Methodist Church in Bunker Hill, IN. While at Purdue University, he joined the Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. They were stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas, from 1952 to 1955. After military service, they returned to Indiana. He later attended Ball State University while working for the Indiana and Michigan Electric Company. They were residents of Marion, Columbus, and Fort Wayne. While in Columbus, Charles managed the Cummins Credit Union, served on the Bartholomew County School Board and was an elder at North Christian Church. A career move took the family to Fort Wayne where he worked as the manager of the Lincoln Life Credit Union. Charles liked to stay busy and found in retirement the need for a new career. With a keen sense of direction, and a love for the open road, Charles started a second career as a school bus driver for Southwestern Allen County Schools. In addition to his regular route, Charles enjoyed driving for school field trips, taking sports teams to their events and the school band members to their competitions.
Charles lived a life of deep faith in the Lord. Active memberships included First Christian Church in Gas City, North Christian Church in Columbus and Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne.
Charles was beloved by his family. Quick-witted and always ready with a comeback, his light-hearted nature entertained those he met, even into his final days. He enjoyed fishing whenever he could, playing croquet in the warmer months and playing euchre at any family gathering. He made sure all the grandkids learned the game.
Charles is the father of four children, Gary Linn (Silvia Frick) of Portugal, David Linn (Ann) of Powell, Ohio, Janet (Linn) Edwards (Craig) of Atlanta, GA and Kathleen Linn of Evanston, IL. Grandchildren are Christian Edwards (Maria Sterrett) of Boston, MA, Ellie (Ryan) Smith of Atlanta, GA, Allison (Geoff) Stevenson of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Caroline Edwards (Drew Larson) of Bloomington, IN, Claire Linn (Seth Conroy) of Chicago, IL and Julian Ozers of Chicago, IL.
