City of Peru announces Peru Police Department promotions

PERU, IN- On February 6, 2024, three Peru Police Officers were approved for promotion by the City of Peru Board of Public Works and Safety.

Colten Pitner was promoted to the rank of Captain. Prior to his promotion, Captain Pitner served as the Lieutenant in charge of the Peru Police Detective Division. With this promotion, Captain Pitner will oversee the operations in the detective division while absorbing the job duties and responsibilities of Captain Bill Raber who is retiring on February 9, 2024. Captain Pitner is a ten-year veteran of the Peru Police Department and serves as a generalist instructor, firearms instructor, field training officer, and he is currently in charge of the field training program for new officers at the Peru Police Department. Captain Pitner is a graduate of Maconaquah High School and earned an associate degree in computer science software development from Ivy Tech Community College. He is also a graduate of the 203rd Session of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Captain Pitner resides in Miami County with his wife, Jessica, and their two children.

Josh Ulery was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Lieutenant Ulery is a 17-year veteran of the Peru Police Department serving in the Peru Police Department Detective Division. During Lieutenant Ulery’s career, he has served as a patrol officer, Sergeant, Shift Lieutenant, and Detective Sergeant. In addition to investigating criminal offenses, Lieutenant Ulery has served the department as a narcotics detective and is currently the Peru Police Department Pension Board Secretary, leading the hiring initiatives for the department. Lieutenant Ulery is a graduate of Peru High School and a graduate of the 163rd Session of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He resides in Miami County with his wife, Becky, and their three children.

Jeremy Brindle was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Lieutenant Brindle is a 12-year veteran of the Peru Police Department and currently serves in the Peru Police Department Detective Division investigating narcotics crimes. During Lieutenant Brindle’s career, he has served as a patrol officer, K-9 handler, and Detective Sergeant. While investigating narcotics offenses, Lieutenant Brindle also investigates criminal matters. Prior to his assignment to the detective division, Lieutenant Brindle was assigned to the midnight shift where he primarily conducted drug interdiction along with two of his previous K-9 partners. Lieutenant Brindle is a graduate of Peru High School and the 194th Session of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He resides in Miami County with his wife, Erin, and their two children.

Captain Pitner, Lieutenant Ulery, and Lieutenant Brindle will be officially sworn-in to their promoted ranks at the Peru City Council meeting on March 4, 2024.
