PERU, IN- The City of Peru is planning to construct a new Splash Pad at River Walkway Park and is asking the community’s help to finish the last phases of fundraising to bring this project to reality. The project has been designed and a grant from Indiana DNR Land & Water Conservation Fund has been secured along with funding from the City of Peru for a combined $1.5 million, but the project is still short of the goal. If the $50,000 fundraising goal is met, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) as a part of their CreatINg Spaces program will donate a matching $50,000.
This project will create an inclusive outdoor space and water play experience for families and individuals of all ages to enjoy in Miami County and throughout the surrounding communities.
Located in Peru within River Walkway Park, this project will consist of a new splash pad amenity area to be constructed directly adjacent to the existing River Walkway Park playground.
Project elements will include:
- Concrete deck with water features and ground sprays
- Mechanical building housing splash pad mechanical equipment
- Site amenities such as picnic tables, benches, and concrete cornhole boards
- Identity features including a gateway arch and mural with circus theming
River Walkway Park is a community park located in the southern quadrant of the city, along the Wabash River. It currently offers a skatepark, pickleball courts, playground, picnic shelter, and restrooms. The park also includes an asphalt trail extending along the Wabash River with several river overlook areas.
Funding from this campaign will help purchase splash pad features and supporting amenities such as:
- Splash Pack Elephant
- Spray Stacker
- Shower Water Dome
- Water Globes
- Directional Water Jets and Fountain Sprays
- Circus Themed Gateway Arch
- Circus Themed Mural
- Mechanical Building
The River Walkway Park Splash Pad will provide recreation for children and families of all ages and bring excitement for years to come.
