BUNKER HILL,IN   This week, Miami Correctional Facility offenders were treated to a performance by the world renowned basketball handler/player Tanya Crevier. This was the third time Crevier has visited Miami Correctional Facility. Crevier and her assistant for the day Kevin Alsup of Marion, uplifted the men with basketball skills and with words of encouragement. Mr. Alsup compared his life being a shell, without the presence of GOD in his life. Crevier displayed a banner during the program stating “Choose to be an ACE”. She described the letter A as standing for changing your “Attitude” to reach your “Altitude”. Crevier described how she has spent years practicing and perfecting her craft. She was often told that because of her height, she would never be professional basketball player. But through hard work she made it to the first ever professional female basketball league. As a professional basketball player, Crevier said she was always the first to practice and first to get up off the bench to congratulate her players during game play. The letter “C” in ACE is for Courage and Commitment. Mr. Alsup said it takes courage to take the first step and it takes commitment to continue on. The “E” represents enthusiasm and excellence. Crevier noted because of the first two letters she continued to be enthusiastic about her job, traveling around the country to perform and gives words of encouragement. Tanya is billed as the “world’s finest female basketball handler.” The 5-foot-3 Crevier travels extensively performing her ball-handling routines at school assemblies, camps, churches, and during halftime of many college and professional games, but she has a heart for men and women in prison. Crevier has performed in more than 1,000 prisons in her 35-year career.
