Dale L. Korporal, 91, of Upland, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 7, 2024. He was born in rural Van Buren at home on January 29, 1933, to Bill and Edith (Stout) Korporal. He married his loving wife, Janie, on July 20, 1952, and they were happily married for 67 years.
Dale graduated from Van Buren High School in 1951, where he played basketball for the Aces. He worked as a farmer, worked at Anaconda Wire & Cable, and retired from General Motors in 1993. He was a member of Grace Community Church.
Dale enjoyed gardening, cooking, watching Eastbrook High School and college basketball, going on UAW bus trips, and sharpening chain saw chains. He absolutely loved Gas City racetrack. Dale was known as the “Candy Man”.
Survivors include his daughters, Sally Linton of Upland and Connie Barnaby of Upland; daughter-in-law, Norma Korporal of Upland; sister, Carolyn Korporal of Van Buren; brother, Merritt Korporal of Van Buren; brother-in-law, Bill Atkins of Marion; granddaughters, Abby (Dillon) Coss of Dowling, MI, and Olivia Barnaby of Danville; grandsons, Todd (Cassie) Korporal of Marion and Trey Barnaby of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren, Jessie, Jude, Jentry, Ty, Hailey, Kenzie, Kadence, Kamryn, Kristopher, Kashton, Gwen, Langdon, Sunday, Elliott, Ezra, and Elias; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Craig Korporal; grandson, Brook Linton; granddaughter, Ashley Linton; and sisters-in-law, Betty Ann Atkins and Barbara Korporal.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Grace Community Church, 1810 E. Bradford Pike, Marion, IN 46952.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Dale’s life will begin at 12:00 noon with Pastor Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will take place at Van Buren Cemetery.
