Darlene Dolis Brown

Darlene Dolis Brown, 85, of Peru, Indiana passed away on December 15, 2023 at 11:35PM at home with her husband at her bed side.

She was born on October 7, 1938 to Alene and Claude “Shorty” Mitz in Caruthersville, Missouri. Darlene married  her long time sweetheart, Allen Brown, in Charleston, Missouri on January 31, 1959. During that same year her husband joined the United States Air Force. After finishing tech school, she and her husband were stationed in Mount Clements, Michigan at Selfridge AFB Michigan. In 1961, her husband was sent to a military base in Alaska for one year. Upon completing that tour, she and her husband were stationed in Charleston, South Carolina at Charleston AFB. She and her husband departed that base for an assignment to Sembach, Germany in 1965. While in Germany, she had a chance to travel to different countries: to name a few, she visited, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Amsterdam Holland. She worked part time as a child caregiver until her husband received orders to Vietnam for one year from 1968 to 1969. From 1970, she and her husband returned to Germany for another tour of duty. She and her husband were stationed at Bitburg, Germany until 1973. From Germany, she and her husband were stationed at LA Air Force Base in Los Angeles, California. In 1975, her husband received an assignment to Bangkok, Thailand for one year. From Thailand, they moved to Grissom Air Force Base, Indiana.

She had no children. She had several hobbies including, traveling, playing bingo, and shopping. Spending time with her family and friends was very important to her. Later in life, Darlene retired from Federal Mogul Corporation.

Darlene accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She loved to attend church. Darlene was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church in Peru, Indiana, where she was an usher and a choir member.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers; Horace Mitz, Floyd Mitz, Carl Mitz, Lawrence Mitz, and Meachum Hamilton.

She is survived by her husband, Allen, of Peru, one brother, Samuel Nealy of Lansing, Michigan, one sister, Shirley Stacy of Albuquerque, New Mexico, a special cousin, AC Cleaves, “Uncle Bubba” of Perryville, Missouri, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10am to 12pm on Friday, December 22, 2023 at the Mount Hermon Baptist Church, 451 West Second St. Peru, Indiana. The funeral service will begin at 12pm with Pastor E.J. Lacy officiating. Interment will follow at Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery in Logansport, Indiana.
