David D Penrod, 64, a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away on June 18, 2024, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne. Born on December 31, 1959, in Wabash, to John Lee and Alyce Jean (Parker) Penrod, David lived a life marked by determination, devotion, and passion.
A dedicated farmer at heart, David cherished every moment spent working the land, caring for his cows, and even showering his affection on his cats. His commitment to the agricultural industry was unwavering, reflecting his resilient spirit. Prior to his retirement in 2012, David also dedicated eighteen years of his life to Dalton Foundry, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and expertise as a Journeyman Mechanic.
A graduate of Manchester High School in 1978, David's early years were marked by his active participation in the Future Farmers of America (FFA), a testament to his lifelong love for farming. On July 28, 1984, David married Cara Gemmer, with whom he shared many cherished moments and raised their children: Tyler, Tad, and Taylor. He was a caring grandfather who adored his grandchildren and took joy in their presence. David also enjoyed a good conversation with those closest to him.
The loving memory of David Penrod will be forever cherished by his wife, Cara Penrod, North Manchester; children, John, North Manchester, Tyler Penrod, North Manchester, Tad (Chelsie) Penrod, Claypool, and Taylor (Kaleb) Johnson, Bluffton; brothers, Mark Penrod, North Manchester and Tom Penrod, Arizona; sisters, Ruth (Thom) Reed, North Manchester, Roberta (Ted) Nichols, McCob, Ohio, Violet (Virgil) Ozenbaugh, North Manchester, and Jean (Rick) Sims, Columbia City; seven grandchildren, Faith, Lily, Jolene, Stella, Caroline, Adaiah, and Jed. David was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Clay Harrison Penrod.
Family and friends may call Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 12:30 to 4:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. A private burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Servia, at a later date.
