Doris Eveline (Kinart) Veverka passed away at Wellbrooke in Wabash, Indiana on Friday, May 17 at 4:50 AM. She was born on August 24, 1928 to Doyle and Catherine Eveline (Clymer) Kinart in Prairie City, Iowa. She spent her childhood on the family farm in Jasper County, Iowa along with her siblings Viva Maxine, John Wilbur, and Lavera Mae. Doris preferred the outdoor farm tasks over indoor housework so often could be found working alongside her father and brother. She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1946.
Doris’s brother, Johnny, escorted her to a Grange Hall Dance where she met and fell in love with George Franklin Veverka. They were married on September 19, 1948 in the Christian Church in Newton, Iowa. George and Doris had seven children: Lavonne Marie, George Steven, Larry Allen, Robert Dale, Ronald Eugene, Barbara Eveline, and Susan Lora. George and Doris enjoyed fifty years of matrimony until George passed away on December 19, 1998.
Doris was a homemaker and the most important thing in her life was taking care of her family. She gardened, canned vegetables and fruits, and always had room at her kitchen table for others. She was forever mending or altering clothes for her children and many grandchildren and she enjoyed making warm comforters from fabric scraps. For many years, she made matching Christmas pajamas for all the grandchildren to be worn when the families stayed overnight on Christmas Eve. Throughout her life, Doris remained an outdoors person. She enjoyed working in the yard and tending her vegetable and flower gardens. Even into her 90’s, brisk walks were part of her daily routine.
Grandchildren were the joy of her life. She was known as “Grandma Doris”, “Ma” or “Mollie” by 25 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren plus countless others who adopted her as their honorary mom or grandma. She put children on the school bus for many, many years. Until recent months she frequently made breakfast for local great-grandchildren. Muffin Day was a popular occasion when family members stopped at “Mollie’s” house to get hugs and muffins on the way to school or work.
Doris is survived by her children Lavonne Sparling, George (Cyndi) Veverka, Larry (Brenda) Veverka, Robert (Cindy) Veveka, Ronald (Tammy) Veverka, Barbara (Tim Moroney) Drook, and Susan (John Fox) Veverka.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George and her son-in-law, Ron Sparling.
Doris loved her family deeply and was always the anchor of her large family. She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by family and friends.
