Doris Jean Swan Paul, 95, of rural Lagro, Indiana, went to be with her Lord at 9:02 pm, Sunday, October 27, 2024, at her home. She was a loving and devoted, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all. She was born on December 16, 1928, in Urbana, Indiana, to John William and Altie H. (Brunton) Chamberlain.
Doris was a graduate of Urbana High School. She married John Joseph “Joe” Swan on January 9, 1949; he was killed in a farming accident on June 25, 1984. She later married her high school sweetheart, John Robert Paul, on June 16, 1986; he died September 23, 2020. Doris was a talented seamstress. She enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, knitting, and any other handy work. She was a hospital volunteer for more than 30 years at several hospitals. Doris was a member of the Lagro Fellowship Church, serving as the choir director, and in many other areas of the church. She was also a 4H leader and a member of the Ladies Century Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Jo “Cindy” (Larry) McGuire of Lagro; five grandchildren, Amy (Brian) Howenstine, Mark (Julie) Hobbs, and Kari (Andy) Johnson, all of Lagro, Angie (Rick) Helminiak of Atlanta, Indiana, and Shawn (Anna) McGuire of Summitville, Indiana; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; sister-in-law, Nancy Chamberlain of Urbana; and her cat, Buster. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, John Swan; daughter-in-law, Kathy Swan; grandsons, Bill and Jim Swan; and her siblings, Orville (Martha) Chamberlain, Max Chamberlain, and Betty (Joe) Cooper.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Lagro Fellowship Church, Lagro, Indiana, with Rev. Melissa Rice officiating. Burial will be in Lagro Cemetery. Friends may call 9-11 am, Wednesday, at the church. Arrangements by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash.
