Dorothy (Lowe) Finster, 99, died June 9, 2024. She died in her residence at Demaree Crossing, while under the care of the staff and Paradigm Hospice. She was born January 19, 1925, in Miami County to Guy and Alma (Yoder) Lowe. She lived almost all her life in various locations in Miami County. She lived in Bunker Hill for over 60 years. She moved in September 2019 to Demaree Crossing in Greenwood, Indiana to be closer to her son Dennis.
Dorothy had seven siblings. Isabel Sumpter, Delbert Lowe Pfc MIA WW2, Martha Mohler, Don Lowe, Russell Lowe, Betty Finster, and Carl Lowe. Betty is the only surviving sibling.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, John Davis, and her daughter Janice Davis.
She is survived by her son Dennis (Lois), grandchildren Sarah Finster (Nathan Zuge), Leah Garner (John), Rachel Shaw (Andy), Michael Weaver (Gina), and Jennifer Barry (Will). Great grandchildren are Daniel, Anna, Luke Garner, Claire Shaw, Jacob, Madisyn Weaver, and Eleanor (Ellee) Barry. Great-great grandchildren are Lilliana and Mackenzie Weaver.
Dorothy graduated from Bunker Hill High School in1943. On October 29, 1943 she married Glen Finster who preceded her in death, June 2000. She worked as a homemaker, as well as at a variety of other jobs to care for her family. She retired after 25 years from Randall Elementary on Grissom Air Force Base as the head cook.
Dorothy enjoyed many things. She was a member of Bunker Hill First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed her job as a greeter. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and later seeing her great grandchildren. She loved to travel and see the places she read about. She was very interested in history. After retirement her cooking skills carried over into pie baking which she became well known for in the community. She also took the time to enjoy watching the birds, and making sure they were well fed, especially the hummingbirds. A feeder was kept outside the window of her residence in Greenwood.
Visitation for Dorothy will be Monday, June 17 at the Allen Funeral Home in Bunker Hill from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation. Interment will be at Springdale Cemetery, Bunker Hill, Indiana.
Dorothy believed in giving support to others. Memorial contributions can be made to Bunker Hill First Baptist Church, Paradigm Hospice, or an organization of your choice.
