Edward “Ed” L. Harrison

Edward “Ed” L. Harrison, 88, of Marion, passed away peacefully at 8:52 pm on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He went to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ed was born in Miami County, Indiana, on December 20, 1935, and he was the son of Melvin and Golda (Draper) Harrison.  He graduated from Somerset High School in 1953.  He attended Indiana State University and graduated from barber school in Indianapolis.  He barbered for 21 years and had his own barber shop in the Old Mill in Marion.  He also worked for General Motors in Marion, retiring in 1997 after 23 years of service. Ed and Linda were married on August 3, 1973, and celebrated their 50th anniversary last year.  Their combined grandchildren numbers 15 and 10 great-grandchildren. Ed loved his church and was a member of both Upland United Methodist Church and Mulberry United Methodist Church (Florida), where he was a lay speaker at both.  He was a 50+-year member of Arcana Masonic Lodge and a Past Master, as well as York Rite and Shrine.  He made 42 trips taking children to the Shriners Childrens Hospital in Chicago and to the Cincinnati Burn Hospital.  He was also a member of Upland O.E.S. #411 and was Worthy Patron seven times. Ed was an election poll judge for 11 years in Grant County.  He enjoyed Euchre Club friends for 49 years.  Ed and his wife enjoyed traveling to 18 countries and throughout the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska.  They spent 27 winters in Florida.  Ed’s friends enjoyed him telling jokes.  He truly loved his family and his country. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Harrison; his children: Brenda Harrison of Marion, IN; Bradley Harrison of Las Vegas, NV; Brian (Patty) Harrison of Marion, IN; Brent (Heidi) Harrison of Marion, IN; Kimberly (David Jones) Coolman of Van Buren, IN; and Michael (Jamie) Coolman of Van Buren, IN. He was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Carlene Mills; nephew, Rick (Marcia) Harrison of TN; and niece, Robin Gleason of NV. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin E. Harrison; mother, Golda G. Harrison; child, Jan D. Coolman, Jr.; two brothers, Steven J. Harrison and G. Lee Mills; and sister, Judy Potter. The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, September 23, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, a service to celebrate Ed's life will begin at 11:30 am at North Chapel with Pastor Valerie Hattery officiating.  Entombment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Marion.   1. I always liked Ed’s comments in Sunday Scool at the Upland UMC. Ed and Linda sponsored me for a Emmaus Walk in. 2014. It was an awesome experience. I will never forget what they did for me. Rest in peace 🙏
