Edwin “Ray” Cooper

Edwin “Ray” Cooper, 82, of Wabash, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord at 11:34 pm, Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on July 25, 1942, in Tongs, Kentucky, to Henry Joseph “Joe” and Beulah (Mangus) Cooper.

Ray married Helena “Sue” Pennington on July 29, 1961 in South Shore, Kentucky. He worked and retired from General Tire in Wabash in 2003. Ray was a member of the Southside Free Will Baptist Church in Wabash, where he enjoyed singing, playing his guitar, and was part of the Fellowship Singers. He loved being outdoors where he enjoyed crappie fishing, hunting, motorcycles and cruising on his lawnmower with his grandkids. He adored his wife, Sue, and the pride of his life was spending time with his family. In his later years, he couldn’t survive without his Hidden Valley Ranch dressing.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Cooper, three children; Stephen Ray “Steve” (Kim) Cooper, Mary Margaret (Tim) Webb, and Brian Keith Cooper, all of Wabash, five grandchildren; Sarah Elizabeth Webb and Kara Elaine (Jay) Greyhaert, both of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Isaac Keith Cooper of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Chloe Cooper and Anniston Lea “Annie” Cooper, both of Wabash, great-granddaughter, Iris Juliette Greyhaert of Fort Wayne, and sister, Ellen Howard of New Boston, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Keith Anthony Cooper, who died in 1969, twin sister Edna Mae Guthrie, and two brothers, Carl Cooper and Charles Cooper.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, March 3, 2025, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor Tim Webb officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash.  Friends may call 2:00 – 6:00 pm, Sunday, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are Southside Free Will Baptist Church or Leukemia Foundation, in memory of his son, Keith.
