Elizabeth Florence “Betty” Magley

Elizabeth Florence "Betty" Magley, 97, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 6:37 am, Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Autumn Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Wabash.  She was born on December 6, 1926, in Coldwater, Michigan, to Whitfield and Inez (Moore) Rose.

Betty worked for Quincy Products in Quincy, Michigan, retiring in 1992. She had a hand in raising four generations of children, whom she loved and supported throughout the years. She was small in stature but feared nothing. She enjoyed traveling, dancing to Fred Astaire, baking pies and cakes for her grandchildren's birthdays, and going to Christian and school programs. Betty loved animals and over the years had several dogs and cats she doted on.

When her great grandchildren were still in school, you could catch her at the local Wendy's drinking a hot tea every day as she talked to her grandson David, or granddaughters Caroline and Emily, who worked there. In the mornings she frequented the formerly known restaurant of Ugalde's with an order of toast and jam and a coffee. As the staff knew, Betty never knew a cup of coffee that was ever hot enough. She was active in her church, Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church, and acquired many friends who she went on trips with or visited throughout the week. Betty loved to talk about her grandkids to anyone who would listen. She never saw a day that did not require her to bring a jacket as she was often chilly. She was stubborn and that stubbornness pushed her to drive until she was 92 years old. Betty drove to see her grandchildren in college, her sisters in Detroit, and cousins in Kentucky well into her 80s. She lived a full life taking care of the kids she loved, because the thing Betty loved most in her life was being a mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her son, Herbert William (Sheila) Magley of Leesburg, Florida; two grandchildren, Tina Marie Siler of Wabash, and Kyle Magley of Leesburg, Florida; six great-grandchildren, Sarah (Robert) Lee of Reading, Michigan, Emily (Michael) Ortega and Caroline Siler, both of Bloomington, Indiana, David Siler of LaFontaine, Indiana, Destiny (Cody) Phifer of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and David Lee Siler of Pierceton, Indiana; and two great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Steven Wayne Magley, grandson, Herbert W. Magley III, and two sisters, Lilly Ann Blair and Gloria Gail.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor Terry Hinds officiating. Graveside services will be 2 pm Wednesday in Mason Cemetery, Coldwater, Michigan.  Friends may call 9-10 am Wednesday, at the funeral home.
