Elsie Suddarth, born on October 23, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in Marion, Indiana, on November 13, 2024. She lived a life characterized by her feisty spirit, unwavering dedication, and a profound love for her family and faith.
For many years, Elsie served as a Nursing Home Aid, a role that allowed her to care for others with the same compassion she extended to her own loved ones. Her career in nursing was one of her proudest accomplishments, reflecting not only her professional commitment but also her character as a nurturing and loving individual.
Elsie’s memory is forever cherished by her surviving family, including her sons, Nathan Peter Suddarth (Connie) and John Suddarth, as well as her son Harvey Frederick Suddarth (Karie), and her daughter Ann Loy (Mark Ashmore). She leaves behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren whose lives were enriched by her love and guidance.
Her unique personality resonated with everyone she met. Known for her loving nature, she was fiercely protective of her children and would not hesitate to ensure they were safe and supported. Those who had the privilege to know Elsie recall her fondness for Bible stories and her passion for teaching children. Additionally, she had an eye for aesthetics and loved to decorate, bringing beauty into her surroundings.
Elsie’s love for her husband and children was unparalleled. She often expressed the sentiment that “Jesus loves you,” a reflection of her deep faith and the warmth she spread throughout her community. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Harvey Pearl Suddarth and daughters, Susan Lavonne Thompson; daughters, Mary Ruth Poor; and son, Stephen Philip Suddarth.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, located at 1202 West Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. Visitation will commence on November 20, 2024, from 10:30 AM and continue until the funeral service at 11:30 AM. Following the service, Elsie will be laid to rest at Marion National Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
