Evelyn Ruth Compton, 83, of Warren, Indiana, died at 7:56 pm, Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Heritage Pointe in Warren. She was born on February 26, 1942, in Wabash, Indiana, to Everett and Emma (Niccum) Stoops.
Evelyn was a 1959 graduate of Noble Township High School. She married David L. Compton at the Southside Evangelical United Brethren Church in Wabash on September 20, 1959. Evelyn was a homemaker and a quilter. She quilted and did alterations in her home. Evelyn was a member of the Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Somerset, and the Somerset Lions Club. She loved to travel.
She is survived by her husband, David L. Compton of Warren; two daughters, Christina “Chirsty” Jackson of Albion, Indiana and Cathleen “Cathy” (Steve) Poreman of Granger, Indiana; five grandchildren, Alec (Katlin) Poreman of Fishers, Indiana, Evan Poreman of Tampa, Florida, Shane Compton of Texas, Christopher Castle of Warsaw, Indiana, and Brianna Castle of Iowa; and also great grandchildren, including Sage Poreman of Fishers. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Eldon Stoops.
There will be a memorial service at 12:00 pm, Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Somerset, with Charlotte Overmeyer officiating. Friends may call from 10-12 p.m., April 5, 2025 at the church. Arrangements by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash.
