Fideles M. Power, 102, Sweetser, passed away in her home at 2:45 pm on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. She was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Sunday, October 9, 1921, to Edward and Catherine (McDonald) Murphy. On November 28, 1945, she married Joseph B. Power and he preceded her by nearly 60 years.
Fideles graduated from Bethlehem Academy worked as an assistant postmaster at the Sweetser Post Office. She was a very involved member of St. Paul Catholic Church where she taught CCD class. She was a great seamstress and quilter. She was a good friend to everyone and loved to take care of people. She was an avid reader and read a wide variety of books. Most of all, Fideles loved her family and was a wonderful matriarch. She will be greatly missed by the legacy of family left to cherish her memory.
Survivors include her children, Kathleen (Hugh) Smith, Marilea (Eric) Palmer of Indianapolis, Joseph (Linda Einfalt) Power, Gail (Terry) Hillis, Michael (Rita) Power, Ann (Tony) May, Matthew (JoAnn) Power, Beth (Rex) Wuthrich; grandchildren, Eric, Conan, Bryn, Nathan, Nicholas, Joshua, Jeremiah, Amelia, Shannon, Amber, Brett, Christian, Kaitlyn, Bridget, Olivia, Cecelie, Sophie, Angie, Natalie, Morgan, Amanda, Jordan; plus 33 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Catherine Murphy; husband, Joseph B. Power; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1009 W. Kem Rd., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a Mass to celebrate Fideles' life will begin at 1:00 pm with Father Ted Rothrock officiating. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
