Gary D. Shanks, 84, Gas City, passed away at 2:32 pm on Monday, June 3, 2024, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Saturday, July 15, 1939, to Lawrence and Edna Cox-Shanks. On February 14, 1959, he married Margaret Irene Carl and she preceded him.
Gary attended Marion High School and later worked as a Machine Shop Welder for 37 years. Gary was a member of New Life Fellowship in Gas City. He was an avid Ducktail Run fan and supporter. He loved automobile racing, including NASCAR and dirt track racing. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ralph and Faye Shipley who were his caregivers.
Survivors include sons, Gregory (Connie) Shanks, Jeffrey (Alicia) Shanks; siblings, Patty Stebbens, Denny Shanks, Cindy Butler, Tony Shanks, Bradley Shanks; grandchildren, Joshua Shanks, Zachery (Martina) Shanks, Clair Goodwin; great grandchildren, Braydon Shanks, Caydon Shanks, Landen Shanks, Graysen Shanks, Kynnleigh Shanks; and special friends, Roger Blackburn, Kevin Roseberry.
He was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence Shanks and Edna Cox-Shanks; wife, Margaret Irene Shanks; brothers, David Shanks and Mike Shanks.
The family will receive visitors from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Gary's life will begin at 11:00 am with Pastor Paul McPhearson and Jeff Young officiating. Burial will take place at Estates of Serenity.
