Gayles Hayden Duncan

Gayles Hayden Duncan, 78, of Hartford City, passed away at 1:06 pm on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Wesleyan Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Oneida, Tennessee, on Sunday, October 20, 1946, to E.T. Harness and Nola (Duncan) Phillips. He married Leisa Barton on July 20, 1991, and she survives.

Gayles served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Gayles worked as a truck driver for many years, he also worked as a plant supervisor and a operations manager.

He was a former Mason and a former member of the AmVets and American Legion.

In addition to his loving wife, Leisa, Gayles is survived by his step-daughter, Tiffany (Dar Reeves) Brozowski; step-son, Christopher (Jennifer) Richey; granddaughters, Amber Brozowski and Lily Richey; grandson, Luke Richey; nieces, Carol Sue (Nick) Symos, Barbara (Edwin) Riley, Debra (Darrell) Day, Tammy Spuzzillo, Leesa (Gary) King, Darlene Dillman, Wendy Phillips, and Jama Hamby; nephews, Ray Gibson and Tony Botts; sisters-in-law, Ruby Duncan and Larrie Duncan; several extended family members and friends; his dogs, Boudicca and Phoebe; and his cats.

He was preceded in death by his father, E.T. Harness; mother, Nola Phillips; one sister, and four brothers.

Gayles’ wishes were to not have a public funeral service.
