General Assembly kicks off 2025 session

STATEHOUSE — State Sen. Andy Zay (R-Huntington) gathered with fellow legislators today at the Statehouse for Organization Day – the ceremonial start of the 124th Indiana General Assembly.

Organization Day includes the swearing in of new and returning members of the General Assembly. This day also marks the annual first roll call of all state lawmakers and gives each Senate and House of Representatives caucus the opportunity to organize in preparation for the 2025 legislative session. By state law, the 2025 session will conclude on or before April 29.

During the first session of each General Assembly, lawmakers craft a comprehensive budget to fund government services for the next two fiscal years.

“I have dedicated much of my time leading up to this legislative session building a strong case against the current practice of pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), who are potentially driving up the cost of prescriptions for Hoosiers,” Zay said. “I am eager to return to the Statehouse in January and continue my efforts in holding these PBMs accountable. I look forward to working with my fellow lawmakers to find more ways we can lower the cost of prescription drugs in Indiana and ensure more money stays in the pockets of Hoosier taxpayers.”

As the 2025 session gets underway, Zay encourages residents of Senate District 17 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Zay can be reached by filling out a “Contact Me” form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Zay or by phone at 800-382-9467.
