Grant County investigation leads to arrest with multiple felony charges

GRANT COUNTY, IN- On Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 9:37pm (21:37 hrs), Grant County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the 3600 South Granton Place apartment complex in reference to a domestic disturbance Involving a subject armed with a gun. On arrival, the deputies were informed by witnesses the subject, Ronald D Gayles, age 21 from Chicago, Illinois had broken into the apartment threating to kill others and then forcing his estranged girlfriend, aged 19, to leave with him at gunpoint.
Deputies investigating the abduction were able to gather enough evidence and information seeking a warrant for the arrest of Gayles, which was authorized by the Honorable Judge Jeffrey D. Todd of Grant Superior Court I.
Within a few hours the deputies tracked the suspect and victim to the Munster Community Hospital in Lake County, Indiana. Munster Police Officers were able to locate Ronald Gayles, taking him into custody and recovering the weapon, also confirming the victim was safe and being treated at the hospital.
Ronald D Gayles is currently being held in the Lake County jail pending transport back to Grant County on the charges of:
Count 1: Burglary, a Level 2 Felony, Count 2: Kidnapping, a Level 3 Felony. Count 3: Criminal Confinement, a Level 3 Felony. Count 4: Intimidation, a Level 5 Felony. Count 5: Domestic Battery, a Level 5 Felony. Count 6: Criminal Recklessness, a Level 6 Felony. Count 7: Residential Entry, a Level 6 Felony.
The bond is set at $300,000.00 Cash or Surety.
Sheriff Garcia commends the Deputies for their due diligence in this investigation and quick resolve of a violent crime. They also recognized the overall team effort and assistance from the Marion Police Department, Munster Police Department, Grant County Central Dispatch E-911, and the Grant County Prosecutor.
