Harold Leroy Mettler, 86, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 5:11 pm, Friday, May 24, 2024, at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne. He was born on November 23, 1937, in Wabash, to David Robert and Marie (Zook) Mettler.
Harold was a US Army veteran. He married Joyce Harman at the Niconza Baptist Church in Miami County, Indiana on September 9, 1962, and they have been married 61 years. He worked at GenCorp in Wabash 43 years, retiring in 2008. Harold was a member of Olive Branch Church of God and the Wabash American Legion. He was an avid bowler and belonged to the Wabash Men's Bowling League. He also played fast pitch softball on numerous teams in Wabash County and played until the age of 63. He was also an avid gardener and had a 2-acre garden. Harold enjoyed canning, cooking, baking, and especially loved to follow his grandchildren in their activities.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Mettler of Wabash; five children, Robert W. Mettler, William A. Mettler, and Anita Marie Mettler, all of Wabash, Rebecca (Cameron) Baker of Peru, Indiana, and John A. Mettler of Lafayette, Indiana; twelve grandchildren, Kelli (Salvador) Rojas, Megan Willett, John Mason (Christina) Willett, Kendra (Brady) Shepler, Matthew Mettler, Austin (Taylor) Mettler, Mikala (Joey) Burns, Kyle (Emily Sommers) Mettler, Robert L. (Mersadez Highley) Mettler, Bailey (Waltrae Robinson) Baker, Gina Blocher, and Taylor Mettler; 23 great grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandsons; his sister, Annie Sutherland; and special nephew Scott Nethercutt. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Juanita Marie Mettler, daughter-in-law, Kristie Mettler, four brothers, and six sisters.
