WABASH, IN- Honeywell Arts & Entertainment’s CommUNITY Arts Program and Bridging Worlds presented Canturia de mi Sangre (Song of my Blood), a concert experience featuring Chilean musicians and poetry on September 24 at Manchester High School. CommUNITY
Arts is a multi-week collaboration between Honeywell Arts In Education and Manchester Community Schools. The program inspires students to give voice to their individual stories through visual art, music, and storytelling.
The concert experience featured Chilean musicians Kike Galdames and Claudio Gonzalez, who performed original compositions set to the works of Gabriela Mistral, a trailblazing Chilean poet and educator who was the first Latin American woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.
CommUNITY Arts English Language Learners and advanced Spanish students participated in a master class with the musicians, focused on the integration of music and poetry while encouraging students to develop their own poetic expressions. Around 70 students and 20 community members also participated in a two-part Creative Canvas Workshop led by visual artist Hannah Burnworth. Guests painted a canvas inspired by Chilean artist Monroe, and the artwork created was displayed during the evening of the concert.
