HUNTINGTON, IN- On May 11, 2024, at approximately 7:41pm, Wayne M. Hamlin, age 68, of Huntington, Indiana was struck while operating his mobility scooter while crossing Warren Street at Washington Street in Huntington City. Mr. Hamlin traveled into the intersection of Warren Street from Washington Street and was struck by a northbound pickup truck
operated by William McKinzie, also of Huntington. EMS and first responders from the Huntington City Fire Department responded to the scene where he was treated for life threatening injuries and transported Mr. Hamlin to a Fort Wayne Hospital where he subsequently succumbed to those injuries. Mr. McKinzie was not injured in the crash. The cause of death is blunt force traumatic injuries, and the manner of death is accidental.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing with the Huntington City Police Department, Huntington County Sheriff FACT, and the Huntington County Coroner’s Office.
