Recently, the State Budget Committee approved $200 million in additional funding for Child Care and Development Fund vouchers to serve an estimated 14,000 more children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The state is taking another step to expand childcare access through proposed reforms to reduce regulatory burdens on providers, encourage new providers and improve affordability for working families while maintaining health and safety standards. The proposals include:\ufeff<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Staff-to-child ratio and group size changes<\/strong>: A&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.des05.com\/t\/49647054\/1676493225\/104288461\/0\/60330\/?x=aa7f1ba5\">law<\/a>&nbsp;the General Assembly passed last year directed the Family and Social Services Administration to revise Indiana&#8217;s childcare staffing ratios and maximum group sizes so they are no more restrictive than the average requirements in neighboring states. These changes would allow providers to serve more children and address workforce shortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reducing educational barriers:<\/strong>&nbsp;Current rules generally require childcare center directors to have a bachelor&#8217;s degree and lead caregivers a higher education credential such as a Child Development Associate certification.
