Cummings, Sr., 99, Largo, Florida, passed away at his son&#8217;s home in Gas City at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. He was born on Thursday, December 23, 1926, to Arthur Cummings and Mabel Heckne and was raised on a farm outside Ogema in Prince County, Wisconsin. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He married Margaret S. Rogers on April 26, 1951, they raised 3 children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Russell left home after graduating high school and lived with his aunt and uncle in Chicago, Illinois before moving to Marion, Indiana where his cousin lived and where he met Margaret. He worked at Spencer Cardinal and then retired from Perfection Biscuit Company at 59 years young.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upon retiring he and mom bought a used fifth wheel R.V. They set out driving through Texas, and on to California, picked up his sister and brother-in-law and drove to Alaska to see his brother and family. Alaska was so beautiful, he hunted, fished and went on a sea plane ride. One of the best vacations ever and one he never forgot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His favorite past times were rabbit and deer hunting before he retired. In Florida, he enjoyed fishing for sheepshead 5 out of 7 days a week, bowling, dancing, and playing Euchre, very competitively. He also loved his PBR and Natural Light Beer. He was an avid fan of Indiana University basketball and the WNBA Fever, especially Caitlin Clark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He lived 37 of 40 wonderful years of Seminole and Largo, Florida. He loved living in Florida from September until May, He then would come back for the summer to visit his children, great and great-great grandchildren in Indiana. There was always a summer fish fry of sheepshead he&#8217;d caught in Florida that was enjoyed by all. As soon as the cool temperatures arrived in September, he and mom would go back to the Florida sunshine and warm temperatures. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Russell Cummings, Sr. survivors include his daughter, Donna (Dan) Howard of Sarasota, FL; son, Russell &#8220;Phil&#8221; (fianc\u00e9e Sandy Bryant) Cummings, Jr. of Gas City; grandchildren, Kim (Jason) Barnes, Kirk (Lisa) Howard, Heather (Michael) Downing, Tiffany (Jaime) Embry, Wesley Cummings, Caitlyn (Rob) Reamer; great grandchildren, Kelsey (Austin Cearlock), Austin, Luke, Brett (Caitlin) Kimes, Easton, Emma, Lexi, Dolen; great-great grandchildren, Camdyn, Athena, and Kayden; as well as his special pets, Sydni, Jordy, and Kenzi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur W. and Mabel Cummings; his wife, Margaret; son, Michael A. Cummings; and 7 siblings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The family will receive visitors from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral &amp; Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Russell&#8217;s life will begin at 6:00 p.m. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Memorial contributions may be directed to Heartland Hospice, 3001 S.
