Indiana State Police Investigate Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle in Peru

Peru, IN – On November 8, 2024, just after 9:00 p.m., Troopers from the Indiana State Police Peru District and Deputies from the Miami County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle in Peru, IN. A preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Todd Trottier revealed a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander driven by Stephanie Dewitt of Peru, IN, was traveling westbound on US 24 approaching County Road 550 E. Dewitt's vehicle struck a pedestrian, who was identified to be Jeffrey Moss, 66, of Logansport, IN. Further investigation revealed Moss was crossing from the south to the north side of US 24. Moss was pronounced deceased at the crash scene by the Miami County Coroner's Office. Notification to the family of the deceased has been made. It was dark out at the time of the crash, and alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash. However, toxicology results are pending at this time. The information above is preliminary; the investigation is ongoing, and there is no further information to be released at this time. Master Trooper Trottier was assisted on the scene by troopers from the Peru Post, Miami County Sheriff's Office, Roann Fire Department, Duke's EMS, and Miami County Coroner's Officer.
