The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and INDOT have agreed that this project falls within the guidelines of a Categorical Exclusion Level 4 (CE-4) environmental document. No significant adverse impacts to the human and natural environment were found during the preparation of the CE-4.

This project is needed to address traffic disruptions and delays caused by long passing trains and frequent events where a stopped train blocks all crossings in Wabash. The purpose of the project is to provide a reliable crossing at the Norfolk-Southern rail line within the City of Wabash and to ensure access to all public and private services for the residents of Wabash during long passing train and stopped train events.

The project plans to construct a new single-span bridge to carry N. East St. over the Norfolk Southern Railroad. The total cost estimate for the project – including construction, right of way and engineering – is currently $8,520,805. The project is scheduled for letting in July 2024.

Additional project information, including the CE-4, is available at www.cityofwabash.com/traxproject.
