Jack Allen Gaunt

Jack Allen Gaunt, 86, of West Lafayette, Indiana, formerly of Wabash, Indiana died at 6:36 pm, Friday, January 19, 2024, at Franciscan Health Lafayette East Hospital in Lafayette.  He was born on May 26, 1937, in Wabash, to Robert L. and Alice M. (Myers) Gaunt.

Jack was a 1955 graduate of Roann High School. He married Nancy Ann Rupley at Epworth Forest in North Webster, Indiana on October 27, 1973; she preceded him in death on April 26, 2020. He owned and operated Gaunt and Son Construction in Wabash after he purchased it from his uncle, Lawrence Gaunt. Jack was a longtime member of the Roann Christian Church. Jack built a cottage at Beaver Dam Lake, and has owned it since 1972, where he enjoyed spending time fishing, and sitting on the porch. He was a life member of the Wabash F.O.P. Jack enjoyed tinkering on and refurbishing old cars. He spent the winter months in Okeechobee, Florida, fishing for more than 40 years.  

He is survived by three daughters, Deborah (Richard) McCormick of West Lafayette, Indiana, Mary Jayne (Jeff) Steele of Wabash, and Tracy Gaunt of North Webster, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Leah (Paul) Sinka of West Lafayette, TJ (Kristin) McCormick of Lafayette, Indiana, Kayla Steele of Lebanon, Indiana, Erica (Zack) Bogner of Brownsburg, Indiana, Jessica (Justin) Cileo of Folsom, California, Angela (Curtis) Grady of Syracuse, Indiana, Amanda (Curtis) Shoemaker of Pierceton, Indiana, and Whitney (Ryan) See of Warsaw, Indiana; and he was blessed with ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Jane Alexander of Nashville, Tennessee, and Janice Wilson of McKinney, Texas.  In addition to Nancy, he was also preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Jerry Gaunt.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Chris Ponchot officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.  Friends may call 12:30 - 2:00 pm Saturday, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are Beaver Dam Loon Lake Conservation Club or Roann Christian Church.
