Janet Blake, 79, Gas City, passed away at 12:44 pm on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Colonial Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on Sunday, May 20, 1945, to Thattius and Dorothy Berry. She spent most of her life in New Jersey with her grandparents where she graduated from Atlantic City High School and attended Atlantic City Community College. She moved to Indiana in 1999 and worked at Ball Foster until the plant closed. Then she worked at Centennial Wireless before opening her own Verizon store, then moved to Moorehead Communications. She became known as "the phone lady from Gas City". Janet loved serving her community. She had been the President of the Gas City Chamber of Commerce, Gas City Kiwanis, and Grant County Chamber of Commerce. She served as Vice President of the Gas City Concerts in the Park and was a member of the Kiwanis Club. Survivors include her son, Kenneth Blake, Jr. of Maryland; grandchildren, Kenneth Nieem Blake of New Jersey, Chanel Smith of New York, Zytavin Hunter of Kansas; 3 great grandchildren, Isiah, Reign, and Reily of New Jersey; sister, Gloria Berry of Birmingham, AL; partner, Donna Fannin of Gas City; as well as extended Fannin family from Gas City. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Janet's life will begin at 6:00 pm with Pastor Mark Atkinson officiating. Memories may be shared online at www.nswcares.com.
