Jerome Edmund Mackowski

Jerome Edmund Mackowski, 78, of Huntington, Indiana, died at 7:30 am, Monday, January 6, 2025, at Wellbrooke of Wabash.  He was born on November 28, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana, to Edmund Telesfor and Eleanor Frances (Wilczynski) Mackowski.

Jerome was a 1964 graduate of St. Joseph High School, received his bachelors degree from Purdue University, and his masters degree from Indiana University. He first married Nancy Carol Hawk, the mother of his four children, on June 21, 1968 until April of 1997. He then married Nancy Ann Myers in Huntington, Indiana on July 2, 1998; she died October 16, 2020. Jerome was a chemist and a lifelong learner. He was committed to his Catholic faith. He enjoyed working, fixing things, and never came across a problem he couldn’t solve.

He is survived by four children, Robert Mackowski and Stephanie (Nate Schuler) Gribben, both of Wabash, IN, Christina (Troy) Egts of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Melissa (Justin) Denney of Wabash; step son, Troy (DeWayne) Nolan-Watkins of Indianapolis, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Taylor (Keaton Cruz) Egts of Wabash, Blake (Picabo Saunders) Gribben of Laporte, Indiana, Khloe Schuler and Brinley Schuler, both of Wabash, Spc. Eastyn Egts of San Antonio, Texas, Logan Egts of Fort Wayne, Eliza Denney and Macklin Denney, both of Wabash; step grandchildren, Mataya Nolan-Watkins, William Nolan-Watkins, Elijah Nolan-Watkins, and Sophia Nolan-Watkins; great granddaughter, Athena Cruz of Wabash; and two sisters, Delphine (Jake) Lytell of Illinois, and Maryann (Charles) Allison of Delaware.  He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Friday, January 10, 2025, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Father Jay Horning officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery, Huntington.  Friends may call 5-7pm Thursday, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are Wabash Carnegie Public Library or the Animal Shelter of Wabash County.
