John Howard Engel

John Howard Engel, 83 years old, Bunker Hill, Indiana died Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Community Howard Regional Health in Kokomo. He was born September 8, 1940 in Bunker Hill, Indiana to John Henry and Vera L. (Klise) Engel. He married Jayne Ellen (White) Engel on November 18, 1961 until her passing on November 4, 2015. They were happily married for 53 years.

John graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1960. He worked at Stellite and Square D and retired from farming which was his true passion.

John was a life member of the Peru Maennerchor, the Moose and the Pipe Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his twin daughters Marilyn (Brian) Shively, Bunker Hill and Carolyn (Rick) Rush, Peru: son Jerry (Deb) Engel, Peru: daughter Debbie (David) Long, Dayton, Ohio. Eleven grandchildren Kassi Kotkoski, Justin (Madyson Burge) Engel, Nathan (Amanda) Shively, Sara (Tyler) Murphy, Janel (Don) Townsend, Ian (Heather) Shively, Kayde (Blake Butcher) Sager, Corey Long, Ellie (Jarrod) Alspaugh, Katelyn Rush and Brooke Long. Seventeen great-grandchildren Joey Townsend, Sarah Townsend, Weston Graves, Jaden Manriquez, Ava Shively, Braxton Manriquez, Natalie Sager, Trevor Shively, Porter Kotkoski, Harper and Hadley Shively, Nora Murphy, Lillian Alspaugh, Isla Murphy, Calvin Alspaugh, and Richard Engel and Coen Murphy. A brother-in-law Dennis Ege, Walton and sister-in-law Patricia (Michael) Thompson, Muncie.

John was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and a son Jeffrey Allen Engel. Along with a sister Mary Lou Ege, brother Michael Engel and son-in-law Dan Kaufman.

A service celebrating John’s life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 10:00am- 12:00pm at Allen Funeral Home, 136 South Elm Street, Bunker Hill, Indiana. Funeral services will follow at 12:00pm with grandson and Pastor Tyler Murphy officiating. Burial will follow at Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery in Logansport, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Pipe Creek Volunteer Fire Department, 339 West Pearl Street, Bunker Hill, Indiana  46914.
