John “Tom” Wagner

John “Tom” Wagner, 58, of Peru, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis surrounded by his family.

Tom was born on June 1, 1966 to Gus James and Dian (Hoeppner) Wagner in Peru, Indiana. He was a 1985 graduate of Maconaquah High School. After graduation, Tom attended and graduated from the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology. For the last 24 years, he was employed at Peru Utilities where he was a water plant operator.

Tom had many hobbies that he enjoyed. He loved fishing, farming, hunting, and snowmobiling. He liked attending auctions and collecting fishing memorabilia. Most recently, Tom enjoyed collecting Penn Central trains. Of all of his hobbies and things that he enjoyed doing the most; there was nothing that Tom enjoyed more than watching his son, Lane, play sports; especially, watching him wrestle.

On November 3, 1990, Tom married Suzy (Hawley) and she survives. In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his son, Lane Wagner, of Peru; brothers Jim (Linda) Kaufman of Peru, and Steve (Lisa) Wagner of Peru and sisters Kris (Rob) Thiel of Rensselaer, and Bridget (Scott) Butler of Peru. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Carolyn Hawley of Peru, brother-in-law, Chad (Katrina) Hawley of Kokomo, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and his dog, Tessie.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dan Kaufman, and his father-in-law, Walter Hawley.

There will be a gathering of friends and family held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 2:00pm-7:00pm at the Literary Aid, 21 West Canal Street, Peru, Indiana.
