July’s First Friday brings Backyard Barbecue Atmosphere to Downtown

WABASH, IN- Downtown Wabash will feel like home for community members and visitors alike with lively backyard vibes during July’s First Friday: BBQ in the Bash. With the smell of barbecue on the grill and cornhole bags flying, this First Friday will be one to remember. On Friday, July 5 from 5-9pm, First Friday goers are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the free event by participating in a cornhole tournament, enjoying live music, embarking on a shopping spree and indulging in delicious downtown dining.

Bachelor Creek Church will host a cornhole tournament on Miami Street open to all ages. Participants will have the chance to win a traeger smoker donated by Schlemmer’s Fire & Outdoor. Those interested in showing off finely-tuned cornhole skills can pre-register or register during the event. Walk-up registrations are welcome on July 5 from 5-6 p.m. The tournament will begin promptly at 6 p.m., so teams should arrive early for check-in. 

Wabash County Museum and Living Well Downtown will host a concert by The Bulldogs full of “Sock Hop” nostalgia. Playing to sold-out audiences throughout the tri-state area, the local favorite 50’s and 60’s Rock n’ Roll band has been bringing the “Oldies” back for the last 30 years. The live performance will take place in front of the Wabash County Museum on East Market Street.

Food Truck Plaza, located at Veterans Plaza, will feature live music by Sammy D the UkuLady and several food truck vendors for visitors to browse a diverse array of food offerings. During June’s First Friday, Food Truck Plaza will feature Amazn Azn, Amor Colombian Food, The Franklin Mobile Bar, Payne’s Fish & Chips, JB’s Cuisine Machine, Carol Sue’s BBQ, Emmett’s Paddywagon, Fairfax Coffee Co., The Beverage Buggy and Nick’s Dog Cart. 

Numerous downtown businesses will offer a variety of summertime and barbecue-inspired First Friday specials for shoppers to take advantage of. Miami Street will also close to traffic during the event, welcoming community vendor booths with various activities, giveaways and information. To ensure safe transportation and easy access to additional event parking, Trolley No.85 will run a free route with various stops throughout Downtown Wabash.
