June F. Jackson, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, 86, Marion, passed away at 10:35 am on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Wesleyan Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was born, one of four children on Saturday, June 26, 1937, to Olus and Lilly (Burnette) Dixon in Ripley County, Indiana.
She graduated from Versailles High School and attended Marion College for two years. It was there she met Harold R. Jackson, whom she married in the fall of 1959.
June was a devoted wife to Harold and a loving mother to their two children, Diane and Terry.
She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were in school, and then she worked as a teacher’s aid at McCulloch Jr. High School. She worked with special needs students and the in-school suspension program. Later on, she worked as a member service representative at Via Credit Union.
She was active in her church with singing in the choir, helping with VBS, youth group and the hospitality committee. She was well-known in the community for her pie making. She enjoyed entertaining and helping others.
When she retired, she and Harold kept busy with some traveling and various church and civic groups. They also had a garden and shared with many friends and family their fresh vegetables, canned green beans, pickles, beets and multiple jams, jellies, cherries, pears and rhubarb.
Survivors include her daughter, Diane (Jim) Cummer of Carmel; son, Terry (Teresa Nevil) Jackson of West Chester, OH; grandchildren, Nicholas Cummer of Carmel, Carter Jackson of Elgin, IL, Elise Jackson of West Chester, OH; siblings, Olus (June) Dixon, Jr., Carol (Bob) Sullender, Maryann Harwell; sister-in-law, Patricia Jackson; brother-in-law, Tal McPherson; as well as several dear nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Olus and Lilly Dixon; husband, Harold Jackson; brother-in-law, James Harwell; and grandson, Jonathan Jackson.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate June's life will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place at Jefferson Cemetery.
