Larry Joe Wente

Larry Joe Wente, 84, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, of Somerset, Indiana, died at 1:10 pm, Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at his home.  He was born on October 18, 1940, in Anderson, Indiana, to Albert A. and Philomena “Minnie” (Wendt) Wente.

Larry was a 1958 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Anderson, received his BS in 1962 from Ball State University, and his Masters degree from St. Francis in Fort Wayne. He married R. Diane Huber in Carmel, Indiana on July 3, 1965. Larry taught science and history, and coached basketball at Marion Bennett from 1964-1972, at Southwood High School from 1972 until his retirement in 2001, and also was a Real Estate Broker many years, as well as a basketball referee. He was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church, the Friends of St. Patrick Catholic Church, and the Retired Teachers Association. Larry was also a former member and officer of the Somerset Relocation and Development Corporation.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Wente of Somerset; three children, Laura (Dale) Snyder of Keller, Texas, Susan Wente of Easton, Massachusetts, and Brent (Michelle) Wente of Solon, Ohio; and eight grandchildren, Cory (Heather) Snyder, Lily (Rylan) Horak, Hallie Snyder, Casey Snyder, Alex LaFleur, Audrey LaFleur, Abby Wente, and Carter Wente.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 188 West Sinclair St., Wabash, with Father Jay Horning officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.  Friends may call 4-6pm Monday, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash.
