We celebrate the life and legacy of our beloved Larry W. Bechtold. Born on May 14, 1944, in Wabash County, to William and Edith Leona (Freshour) Bechtold, Larry passed away on June 21, 2024, at his home in North Manchester, at the age of 80, surrounded by his three loving daughters.
Larry’s life was forever changed when he married his beloved wife, Dianna P. Stephan, at the Salem United Methodist Church on July 23, 1966. Together, they built a life centered on their family and farming, creating a home filled with love and laughter. Larry’s dedication to his family was unwavering, always ensuring that his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were well cared for and cherished. He cherished family gatherings, Christmas celebrations, and his famous July parties. Larry found joy in watching movies with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing stories, and imparting his wisdom.
Throughout his years, Larry devoted himself to the land as a dairy farmer, finding solace and purpose in the cycles of nature. Even after experiencing a farm accident that shifted the course of his work, Larry continued to tend to his beef cattle with a steadfast spirit of determination. Known for his craftsmanship and ingenuity, Larry could tinker with and fix anything around the farm. A former salesman for Parker Seed Corn, Larry’s days were filled with hard work and laughter, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. In his spare time, Larry enjoyed bonding with his friends over morning coffee at McDonald’s, engaging in lively discussions about life and the world’s happenings.
The loving memory of Larry Bechtold will be forever cherished by his daughters, Lisa Bechtold, Patty Eltzroth, both of North Manchester, and Amanda (Doug) Rhoades, South Whitley; brothers, Tom (Marcella) Bechtold, North Manchester and Terry (Becky) Bechtold, Urbana; sister, Shelba (Dean) Neher, North Manchester; grandchildren, Andrew (Katlyn) Eltzroth and Austin (Hillary) Eltzroth, both of North Manchester; great-grandchildren, Korbin, Kensley, Shelbey, and Addison Eltzroth. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Melvin Bechtold, Billy Joe Bechtold, Max Bechtold, Richard Bechtold, Jerry Bechtold, Donald Bechtold, Betty McCune, and Opal McColley.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with Alan Siepker officiating. Calling will begin at 9:00 a.m. at McKee Mortuary. Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Servia, Indiana.
