Lavern C. “Brownie” Brown

Lavern C. “Brownie” Brown, 95, La Fontaine, passed away at 2:07 pm on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Rolling Meadows Health & Rehabilitation Center in LaFontaine. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Thursday, July 25, 1929, to Carl Brown and Ruth (Cloud) Hoss.  On November 23, 1949, he married Norma Joan, who preceded him in death.

 

Vern graduated from Van Buren High School and worked 40 years with Indiana Bell / AT&T, retiring in 1988 from AT&T. He was a lifetime member of the Pioneers and a member of St. James Lutheran Church. Vern loved fishing and hunting. He cherished his family and was very involved in their lives, often found outside playing with his kids and grandkids.

Survivors include his children, Dennis (Victoria) Brown of Marion and Deborah (Jim) Strickland of Marion; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad) Sexton of Lebanon, OH, Aaron (Katherina) Shepler of Indianapolis, Eric (Jill) Brown of Riverview, FL, Jordan (Christi) Brown of Brookfield, WI, Nathan “Parker” (Sasha Ball) Brown of Marion, and Lauren (Alex Long) Brown of Greenfield; and great-grandchildren, Lucas and Tyler Sexton, Alex and Laina Shepler, Caleb, Caden, and Hannah Brown, Joanna and Juliana Brown.

He was also preceded in death by his father, Carl Brown; mother, Ruth (Marion) Hoss; brother, Ralph “Mike” Brown; and half-brother, David Hoss.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

A service to celebrate Brownie’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger and Joe Chambers co-officiating. Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory in Marion.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or Marion-Grant County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1921, Marion, IN 46952.
