Lawrence J. Denney, 96, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 4:30 pm, Friday, December 20, 2024, at Wellbrooke of Wabash. He was born on July 12, 1928, in Wabash, to Darwin “John” and Dolores (Jeffries) Denney.
Lawrence was a 1946 graduate of Linlawn High School. He married Beverly J. Vrooman in Wabash on August 6, 1948; she died September 10, 2018. Lawrence was co-owner and service manager of Denney Motor Sales, retiring at the age of 82. He was an elder and active member of the Wabash Christian Church, and also a former Wabash City Council Member. After retirement, he enjoyed restoring his 1940 Oldsmobile, gardening, fishing on Lake Erie, traveling in his motor home and spending time with his family.
He is survived by four children, Sharon (Rex) Shaw of Wabash, Susan (Rick) Miller of Lagro, Indiana, Tim (Jane) Denney and Jeff (Tonya) Denney, both of Wabash; eight grandchildren, Aaron Shaw of Lagro, Amanda (Jim) Davis of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Matt (Abby) Denney and Justin (Melissa) Denney, both of Wabash, Seth (Jennifer) Denney of Roann, Indiana, Adam Denney of Peru, Indiana, Mason (Abbey) Denney of Kokomo, Indiana, and John Miller of Texas; 12 great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Mary Louise Thompson of Yorktown, Virginia, Donald Denney and Carol Schetzsle, both of Wabash, David (Carolyn) Denney of North Manchester, Indiana, Robert (Ellen) Denney of Newport, North Carolina, and Steven (Marian) Denney of Wabash; sisters-in-law, Janet Denney of Wabash, Quinneth Lance of Trinity, Florida, and Carolyn Vrooman of Wabash. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother Max Denney; sister Kathy Swan; and grandson, Drew Denney.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Rev. Ron Zorn officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 9:30-11:00 am Thursday, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Wabash Christian Church.
