Lois Irene Runyon, 95, of Marion, passed away at 1:20 am on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Colonial Oaks Assisted Living in Marion. Born in Marion, Indiana, on Tuesday, July 16, 1929, Lois was the beloved daughter of William and Florence (McCombs) Parks. On July 20, 1947, she married her lifelong love, Richard “Dick” Ray Runyon, who preceded her in death.
Lois was a proud graduate of Marion High School and worked as a cafeteria worker at Marion High School. She was also a bookkeeper with Flinn Community. Her dedication extended far beyond work-she was a pillar of the First Christian Church, where she poured her heart into serving others. As a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years, she touched the lives of many young children. Along with this, her leadership in the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF) and involvement in church activities were a testament to her giving spirit. Lois was a former Girl Scout Leader and Boy Scout Den Mother. An avid reader and poet, Lois kept a journal throughout her life, capturing her thoughts and memories with care. She was a dedicated and proud Marion Giants fan, faithfully recording the score records of their games for years.
Lois leaves behind a loving family, including her children, Diana N. (late Robert) Harvey of Marion, Richard “Rick” A. (late Debbie) Runyon of Crestview, FL, and Linda Headley of Marion. Her legacy lives on in her seven grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Parks; mother, Florence Parks; husband, Richard “Dick” Ray Runyon; and infant sisters, Dorothy Nell Parks and Rosie Arlene Parks.
Lois lived a life full of tenderness, faith, generosity, and laughter. Her warmth and wisdom will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
