Lorene Butcher, 86, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 8:57 am, Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at her home. She was born on March 26, 1938, in Floyd County, Kentucky, to Waclaw and Verdie (Newsome) Platkus.
Lorene married Bernard Butcher in Wabash on December 7, 1957. She worked at General Tire in Wabash, retiring after 30 years. Lorene loved Jesus, and was a faithful member of Christian Heritage Church in Wabash. She and Bernard led a nursing home ministry for many years and were a blessing to the residents every week. Some of her most favorite times were spent with her kids and grandkids. Lorene attended all of their activities, games, and programs, hardly missing any of them and loved every single minute of it.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard Butcher of Wabash; three sons, Jeff (Robin) Butcher of Kokomo, Indiana, Greg (Marlisa) Butcher and Glenn (Sheila) Butcher, both of Wabash; seven grandchildren, Trent (Kayla) Butcher, Aaron (Alison) Butcher, Josh (Emily) Butcher, Kristie (Corey) Cahue, Andrew (Caitlin) Butcher, Tabitha (Nathan) Welch, and Kiley (Zach) Hanje; nine great grandchildren, Kalli, Madoux, Silas, Grayson, Reid, Lenna, Addie, Nevan, and Jessie; sister, Betty Dollarhide of Ocala, Florida; and her brother, Sonny (Wilma) Platkus of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law Joyce Butcher; and three brothers, William, Jack, and Daniel Platkus.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Christian Heritage Church, 2776 River Road, Wabash, with Pastor Tim Prater officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 3-7 pm Monday, at the church. Arrangements by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash.
