Lupe G. Herrera

Lupe G. Herrera, 92, Marion, passed away at 2:15 pm on Saturday, January 6, 2024, in his home. He was born in Coleman, Texas, on Wednesday, August 19, 1931, to Cirilo and Margarita (Guillen) Herrera.  On December 28, 1961, he married Maria Meza, and she survives.

Lupe worked 30 years at GenCorp, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.  He loved being a father and grandfather, being outdoors and in the countryside, playing baseball and badminton with his kids and grandkids, having cookouts with his extended family, working on his trucks, listening to music, and dancing with his wife. Lupe was a jokester who enjoyed being silly and making people laugh.  He never met a stranger and always welcomed people in to have a bite to eat. He loved going to church when he was able, and he especially enjoyed being with his wife in his retirement.  

In addition to his wife of 62 years, survivors include his children, Mo Herrera of Seattle, WA, Joe (Belinda) Herrera of Converse, Maggie (Juan) Perez of Churubusco, Lisa (Bryan) Harris of Cicero, and Amanda Herrera of Marion; siblings, Catalina Rodriguez, Manuel (Estefana) Herrera, Trinidad Herrera Retana, Julianna (Eloy) Garcia, Inez Serrato, Manuel Herrera, and Josephina Herrera Vretado; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Nati Herrera; and siblings, Maria de Carmen Cabral, Maria de Jesus Herrera Sanchez, Juan (Janie) Herrera, and Modesto Herrera.

The family will receive visitors from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on Friday, January 12, 2024, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1009 W. Kem Rd., Marion, IN.

Immediately following visitation, a Funeral Mass for Lupe will begin at 11:30 am with Father Ted Rothrock officiating.  Burial will take place at Converse Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lupe’s name to the Sweetser (Pleasant Township) Volunteer Fire Department, 104 W. Delphi Pike, Sweetser, IN 46987.

Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
